OpenAI has decided not to release its latest GPT-6.1 Astra model after internal testing found that it did not meet the company’s safety and alignment standards. The model showed improvements over its predecessor but fell short on staying within authorised tasks, following human instructions, and clearly communicating the work it had performed. The decision comes amid growing concerns over AI agents acting beyond their intended boundaries, with OpenAI saying it will maintain a high safety bar before putting the model in users’ hands.

Anthropic has reportedly warned investors that advanced AI could create “catastrophic or existential risks” to humanity. Its reported IPO filing says future AI models could potentially try to resist shutdown, hide information or manipulate people, highlighting growing concerns about how increasingly powerful AI systems might behave. The warning comes as Anthropic considers a potential $2 trillion IPO and continues to call for greater caution in developing advanced AI.

OpenAI has introduced Dots, a new agentic assistant powered by GPT-6 Astra that is designed to work continuously toward user-defined goals with minimal supervision. Unlike traditional chatbots, Dots can handle ongoing tasks, use connected tools and services, and even work as a team of specialised agents with applications ranging from monitoring customer feedback and fixing software issues to helping researchers analyse new data.

Veo is Google’s AI video-generation model that can turn text or images into realistic videos, including native sound. Its latest capabilities offer stronger control over characters, camera movement, scenes, and consistency. Creators can use Veo to make cinematic ads, social media videos, storyboards, product visuals, and even short films without traditional video production.

Comet is an AI-powered browser from Perplexity that can understand webpages and actually perform multi-step tasks for you. Its AI assistant can work across multiple tabs instead of simply answering questions. You can ask Comet to research products, organise a job search, compare information, plan trips, or handle repetitive browser tasks on your behalf.
