The All-in-One AI Pulse: Latest Tools, Trends, and Updates in your Inbox

“The key to success with AI is not just having the right data, but also asking the right questions.”

Welcome to another edition of the Be10x AI Pulse.

This week brought us breakthroughs that could reshape entire industries. MIT's AI just cracked the code on designing antibiotics that attack superbugs in ways we've never seen before, potentially ushering in a "second golden age" of drug discovery.

Meanwhile, the AI hardware race heated up with HTC challenging Meta's smart glasses dominance, and Google dropped an ultra-efficient model that runs on your phone while barely touching the battery.

Let's dive into the developments that are changing the game!

Google has unveiled Gemma 3 270M, a remarkably small AI model that delivers impressive performance while running entirely on smartphones and web browsers. The lightweight system can process 25 full conversations on a Pixel 9 Pro while consuming less than 1% of the device's battery life.

Unlike larger models that require cloud processing, Gemma 3 270M works completely offline and can be customized for specific tasks in just minutes. Google demonstrated the model's versatility by creating a bedtime story generator that functions without any internet connection. The release represents a significant push toward making powerful AI universally accessible on consumer devices, regardless of network connectivity or processing power.

AI & DRUG DISCOVERY

MIT researchers just used AI to design two new antibiotics capable of killing drug-resistant gonorrhea and MRSA bacteria, potentially opening a new front against infections that cause millions of deaths annually. The machine learning models analyzed millions of potential chemical compounds to identify promising candidates that attack harmful bacteria through entirely new mechanisms.

During testing, both AI-designed drugs — dubbed NG1 and DN1 — proved effective in laboratory mice, with one clearing MRSA skin infections and the other tackling antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea strains. The research team believes artificial intelligence could spark what they're calling a "second golden age" for discovering new antimicrobial treatments, as traditional drug development struggles to keep pace with rapidly evolving bacterial resistance.

AR & VR TECH

HTC has launched the Vive Eagle, a new smart glasses lineup designed to compete directly with Meta's popular Ray-Ban collaboration. The glasses offer users the flexibility to choose between different AI assistants from OpenAI and Google, activated through "Hey Vive" voice commands.

The standout feature is real-time visual translation across 13 languages, processing everything locally on the device for enhanced privacy. Beyond translation, the glasses pack a 12MP ultra-wide camera, extended battery performance, video recording capabilities, and integrated music playback. Currently exclusive to Taiwan at $520 — significantly higher than Meta's $300 Ray-Ban offering — the Vive Eagle represents HTC's attempt to carve out premium positioning in the emerging smart eyewear market.

TECH ACQUISITIONS

AI search company Perplexity has reportedly submitted an unsolicited $34.5 billion offer to acquire Google's Chrome browser, positioning itself as a potential solution to Google's ongoing antitrust challenges. The bold proposal comes as the Department of Justice considers whether to force Google to divest Chrome following a federal court ruling that found the company illegally monopolized search markets.

Perplexity pitched the acquisition directly to Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, arguing that an independent operator could address regulatory concerns while maintaining Chrome's functionality for its 3.5 billion users. The bid is particularly striking given that it nearly doubles Perplexity's own $18 billion valuation, though the company claims venture investors have committed to fully funding the transaction. With Chrome controlling over 60% of the global browser market, the proposal represents one of the most ambitious moves yet from an AI startup looking to challenge Big Tech's dominance.
